Chelsea are set to sign Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

The Italian joined Juventus from Empoli in the summer of 2013 in what was a co-ownership agreement of about 500,000 euros. After spending two seasons on loan at Empoli, Rugani returned to the Old Lady. But he has failed to become regular starter in important matches since that time.

Premium Sport report that Chelsea has now agreed to sign with Rugani, who has drawn strong links with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last few weeks.

A 40m-euro fee has been agreed for the defender, with Juventus who has recently accepted the Blues offer.

The Old Lady is expected to use funds from the sale of Rugani to fund the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus – a move that is expected to happen very soon.
