Ramos: Madrid respect Barca

Sergio Ramos insists Real Madrid ‘respect’ Barcelona and that he does not think they ‘care’ about not being given a guard of honour.
Zinedine Zidane confirmed before Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Atletico on Sunday that they would not perform the gesture if Barca won the title by the time they hosted Los Blancos on May 6, and Ramos made it clear he sided with his Coach.
“The situation we’re in is clear, but we wanted to go out and win,” the defender said after the Derbi.
“We had a very complete game, but we’d have taken the chances we had in other matches.
“We created a lot of chances, but we’re sad because the League is far away from us now. It’s something we didn’t want.
“Guard of honour? I’ve always said we have to respect whatever the boss says. [Barca] didn’t give us a guard of honour either.
“There must be respect and the issue of a guard of honour shouldn’t be magnified. I don’t think Barcelona care.
“If the boss said it, that’s that. If we don’t do a guard of honour, it doesn’t mean we don’t respect them.
“Ronaldo subbed off? I don’t know if it was agreed beforehand. It’s true that he’s going through a great run of form and we have to take care of him.
“You just have to see the results we’re getting thanks to him. I hope he keeps going like this.
“Simeone says we’re favourites for the Champions League? No-one likes that tag.
“We’ve shown the way forward. This team have never been arrogant. We’ll keep going with the same humility.
“You have to leave favouritism aside, but with 12 European Cups to our name, our eyes may shine differently…
“Lack of a winner? It was a shame… We created many chances, the only downside is the draw.
“No trophies? It’s clear that it would be very sad for ‘madridismo’ and ourselves not to win any, but we’re still in the Champions League and we have to eliminate Juve.
“Final with Barcelona? It’s never happened, but if it did, it’d be beautiful to play in.”
