Barcelona have confirmed Lionel Messi will remain at the club until at least June 2021 after announcing a new deal for the Argentine star.

The 30-year-old will sign his new deal at the Camp Nou when he returns from his holidays on 15 July to renew his current contract, which was set to expire next year.

Messi first arrived at the club as a 13-year-old in 2000 from hometown club Newell’s Old Boys and he has already spent over half of his life at the Blaugrana.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has won eight La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns, five Copa del Reys, seven Supercopa Espanas, three European Super Cups and three Club World Cup trophies.

The playmaker is Barca’s all-time leading goalscorer, with the club noting he has found the net 507 times in 583 appearances.

A new deal is set to include a €300m release clause to ward off any potential interest from other clubs.
