Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as favourites to sign Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the player for a few transfer windows but have pursued other priorities.

Goal are reporting that the French side have now opened talks with the player. Rodriguez’ current contract with Madrid expires in 2020.

Rodriguez joined Los Blancos for around €80 million after a sensational 2014 World Cup performance with Colombia.

Despite his hefty price tag, the 25-year-old has failed to nail down a regular starting role at the club.

Second time lucky

PSG have already failed once this window to sign a player from Real Madrid.

Portuguese defender Pepe, whose contract at the Bernabeu expired this summer, was close to joining the Ligue 1 side.

The 34-year-old even had a medical with PSG but a dispute of his contract length has resulted in an agreement instead with Turkish side Besiktas.
