That’s why Madrid are champions…”

Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe believes Real Madrid showed ‘the difference between great players and champions’ in the Champions League.

The teenage Frenchman played both legs as the Parisians crashed to a 5-2 aggregate defeated against the back-to-back competition holders in the last 16.

“We worked very hard to get our mentally right ahead of the game with Madrid,” Mbappe is quoted as saying by Marca this weekend.

“We tried hard and we have some great players at the highest level but Madrid demonstrated the difference between players who are great and those who are champions.

“It was the players who lost it, not (Coach) Unai Emery – we went onto the pitch and did not get the result we were aiming for.

“It is important for us to now move on from that defeat and focus on domestic titles and rebuilding for next year, we are all professionals and must think this way.”
