Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane warns Florentino Perez of Cristiano Ronaldo problem

The 32-year-old was given regular rests by the La Liga giants last campaign but due to current injury problems and squad depth, that may not be the case this year.

Gareth Bale is currently out with a hamstring problem and Karim Benzema has also struggled with issues so far this season.

Spanish outlet Don Balon say Zidane thinks Marco Asensio’s form has dropped off meaning the importance of Ronaldo has been magnified.

After selling Alvaro Morata to Chelsea, Real are low on options in order to give the Portugal superstar a rest.

Ronaldo does not want any break from playing football but is said to appreciate his form benefitted last season as a result of Zidane’s decision.

The Frenchman is concerned and has told Real president Florentino Perez that overexposing Ronaldo could cause major problems later this season.

The former Manchester United ace will also have an eye on next summer’s World Cup after Portugal secured qualification.

Real have started the season slowly, drawing twice and losing once in La Liga.

That has left them seven points behind rivals Barcelona who top the table after winning all seven of their matches.

Next up for Real Madrid is a tough fixture away at Getafe on Saturday afternoon at 4.15pm.
