Mustafi : I did not start football as a central defender!

Interviewed by Arsenal Player again, Gunners newcomer Shkodran Mustafi discussed his peculiar passage from being a striker player to a centre-back:

“First of all, I’m delighted, now because otherwise I don’t know if I might be here. But, that said, when I began, I began as a centar forward.

When I was only 14, I signed for Hamburg, and gradually went all the way back to the defence. I took part in front of the defence for a couple games and then in the end I ended up being a central defender then I received a call up for the national team, for the Under-15s at this time, and then it started to be my position”.
