Journalist convinced Gareth Bale will be a Manchester United player next season

At least that is according to the Guardian website’s deputy sports editor Barry Glendenning.

Glendenning made his comment during a discussion about Real Madrid’s interest in Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe on the paper’s Football Weekly podcast.

The Champions League winners fancy snapping up the 18-year-old for a world-record transfer fee.

One of the panellists suggested Mbappe’s potential arrival at the Bernabeu would throw Bale’s future into doubt.

And that is when Glendenning made his claim about the Wales superstar possibly moving to Old Trafford.

“I am convinced Bale will be a Manchester United player at the start of next season,” he said on the Football Weekly podcast.

Bale endured an injury-hit campaign last term for Real, managing just 27 appearances in all competitions.

He was left out of the starting XI for the Champions League final against Juventus and reports in Spain earlier this month suggested Zinedine Zidane would consider selling him to free up room for Mbappe.

United are in talks with Bernabeu bosses over a deal for Alvaro Morata.

It was recently claimed by TransferMarketWeb that Morata would try and convince Bale to join him in making the move to Old Trafford.

Bale is under contract with Real until 2022.

He has scored 67 goals in 150 appearances since moving to Spain from Tottenham in 2013.
